According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, 60–70% of people with diabetes will develop some form of neuropathy during their lifetime. Even more alarming, 85% of lower-limb amputations are preceded by a diabetic foot ulcer. These numbers aren’t just statistics. They represent real patients—our patients—who are losing independence, mobility, and quality of life. The question is: what are we, as providers, doing to promote amputation prevention?
